the image at the top of this page is actually the 2002 reissue ( DT-420) of this model. Visually, the two guitars are virtually identical with only minor differences to distinguish them:
- the neck of this model is painted to match the body color whereas the neck of the 2002 reissue is unfinished
- the neck of this model is 1-piece maple whereas the neck of the 2002 reissue is 2-piece construction
- the serial number of this model has seven characters while the serial number of the 2002 reissue has eight
- both this model and the 2002 reissue came in a Candy Apple finish but this model came with a Black (BK) finish whereas the 2002 reissue came with a Black Pearl (BP) finish

beginning in the 1990s with the release of the first DT-420 and continuing today, it has become somewhat difficult to determine exactly to which line a given Destroyer model belongs: DT Series, EX Series, new X-Series, DTX Series, DTT Series, or Destroyer series.
We have seen multiple sources containing seemingly contradictory information so, throughout this site, we are making the assumption that the DT Series is the parent series for all Destroyers manufactured since 1990 and that all other notations are sub, or child, series.

the Serial Number Format for this model is fymmppp where:
f = factory of manufacture
y = last digit of the year of manufacture (e.g.: 6 = 1996)
m = month of manufacture (e.g.: 0 = Jan, 1 = Feb, ... , 8 = Sept, 9 = Oct, X = Nov, Y = Dec)
pppp = the sequential production number for this individual guitar out of all Ibanez electric guitars manufactured during the specified month/year at a given factory
Note: pppp is not the total number of guitars manufactured of this model.

the targeted Market values are assumptions based upon the geographic region or the language of the catalog(s) in which a given model appears. If a model appears in a Japanese language catalog, the Market is assumed to be East. If a model appears in an English language catalog, the Market is assumed to be West. Otherwise, geographic area such as North America or Asia determines the market designation of East or West.
